Thomas Ng Hoe Lun, LL.B. (HONS), LL.M. Senior Associate Partner


Thomas graduated from the Faculty of Law of the National University of Singapore in 1995 with an Honours Degree. Thereafter, he obtained the Master of Laws degree of the University of Singapore in 1996. Thomas was admitted as an Advocate & Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Singapore in 1997 and he commenced practice as a legal associate with a local law firm for 6 years before joining Tay Lye and Ngaw Partnership as a partner. He was an Associate Director with Pacific Law Corporation until March 2010. He was a Senior Associate Director with CitiLegal LLC until December 2013.

Thomas has been an active litigator since being called to the Bar. He was involved in diverse areas of practice including litigation in commercial cases, construction arbitration matters, alternative dispute resolution, tort cases (such as negligence, nuisance and defamation), employment and labour disputes, intellectual property litigation, corporate litigation, criminal matters, family and matrimonial disputes. Thomas has handled litigation trials commercial cases involving breaches of contract. He has also obtained and discharged injunctions and specific orders in relation to these commercial cases. He also acts for financial institutions in matters involving hire purchase and credit sale of goods. During his time as a legal associate, Thomas also assisted on a landmark case before the Court of Appeal involving breach of a mortgagee's duties.

He has also been involved in trials for construction arbitrations involving defects and its rectification in commercial buildings. Further, he has advised clients on damage caused to their properties as a result of nearby ongoing construction works. Thomas also has experience in litigating over intellectual property rights such as the contentious registration of trademarks. Thomas's work is not merely limited to the commercial sphere. He has an active practice in tort cases where the issues involve negligence, nuisance and defamation. Besides making claims on his clients' behalf for defamatory remarks made by another party, he has also defended corporations and individuals against allegations of defamation.

He is a familiar figure in the Family Court as he acts for many clients in family and matrimonial disputes. Thomas is experienced in divorce and ancillary matrimonial cases as well as in adoption and probate matters. He is also experienced in criminal proceedings where he has handled diverse matters from criminal breach of trust to charges of misuse of drugs and immigration offences. He has conducted many criminal trials on his clients' behalf. Thomas's work is not limited to litigation matters and he has acted for clients in corporate issues such as drafting contracts and agreements. He also drafted and prepared the documentation in setting up an endowment fund for a charity. Like Raymond, Thomas is also a firm believer in alternative dispute resolution and has experience in mediation in both the Singapore Mediation Centre (SMC) and the Primary Dispute Resolution Centre (PDRC) in the Subordinate Courts.

Outside the courtroom, Thomas is passionate about his volunteer work in relation to the AIDS cause as he feels that society can never be too aware of the dangers of this disease. He is a member of the Executive Committee of the charity, Action for AIDS, Singapore and he is also their legal advisor.

Thomas believes strongly in recognizing and understanding the specific and often, personal need of each client in order to provide the best possible solution for them. He is committed to giving the most practical and optimum advice to his clients, which range from the person on the street to corporations and financial institutions.
