Celine’s practice encompasses a broad spectrum of intellectual property
rights including trademarks, patents, copyright, designs and trade secrets.
In particular, she has long and extensive experience in the registration and
protection of trademarks, patents and designs locally and internationally,
utilizing the Madrid Protocol, the European Trademark system, the Patent
Co-operation Treaty and other international treaties on intellectual property
rights and protection. She advises on brand selection, trade mark availability searches
and intellectual property audits to harness and maximize the full potential of
intellectual property within an organization. Over the years, she has
managed and continues to manage the global intellectual property portfolio
for clients ranging from multi-national corporations to start-up companies
and individual inventors. She also represents her clients in contentious
matters before the Intellectual Property Office of Singapore such as
opposition, cancellation and invalidation proceedings.
Celine’s expertise includes advising on commercial agreements relating to
the exploitation of intellectual property rights, including licensing
agreements, distributorship agreements, franchise agreements, technology
transfer agreements, confidentiality agreements and assignments. With her
broad experience in this area, she is able to and has undertaken intellectual
property due diligence exercises in conjunction with corporate takeovers,
acquisitions and investment funding. She has also been involved in actions
relating to the infringement of trademarks, designs, patents and copyright.
Celine has specialized in intellectual property law since 1989, when she
began her legal career as an Assistant Registrar of the Singapore Registry
of Trade Marks and Patents, now known as the Intellectual Property Office
She set up and established the Intellectual Property practice at Tan Kok Quan Partnership and headed it from 2000 to 2005.
She joined CitiLegal LLC as a Consultant in 2005 and headed its Intellectual Property practice till July 2016, before joining Union Law.
Celine is among the pioneer group of lawyers to qualify as a Singapore Registered Patent Agent. She has sat on the Examination Committee for the Singapore Patent Agents Qualifying Examination and served as an Examiner.
She has authored articles on intellectual property issues which have been
published in international publications such as the Computer and
Telecommunications Law Review, the Asia Pacific Forum Newsletter and
Asian Legal Business.
Apart from a Law Degree, Celine holds a Masters in Business Administration.
